2017 Bond Renovations at Cheney High School

In 2017, the Cheney Public Schools community voted in favor of a bond that supported district-wide renovations and improvements, including a renovation project for Cheney High School.

The transformational project added about 97,100 square feet of new educational and supporting space, including 17 classrooms, new weight and wrestling rooms, new wood and metal shop classrooms, updated front office spaces, and a renovated commons area, among other improvements.

the biggest difference that you see in our school in the spaces that are new from the last Bond in the places that are still old and remaining from the last Bond is there it's really just much more functional and efficient for our teachers and our students to do work and interact in our new spaces ring finger the number of times I've had kids say the front can I go to the lab and stick this out or can I gather together with mine with other people you know with other kids and you know like Jewel even doing a worksheet together thinking about the problems together they have space to do that in this room just the space alone but then on top of that the quality of the of what we had so the quality of the lab area quality of just at student carry on the quality of our technology that allows us to help with that we can do with our kids would be different if we had a little tiny wrestling room it may be 30 kids but I've been around Yarmouth Port from the 70s and we had an old old stuff so it was tough to compete in the GI so besides the room you know part of the Vaughn was the weight room so to have that level of a of a weight room with all of the stuff that is in there that's been a huge part of our success with strength and we were not able to do that for a long now our numbers have grown significantly when we have 70 kids on wrestling right now and in that room is packed full and it's awesome and so we have the ability to have a girls team now which we've never had before so mi our sector of wrestling of of our sport has just grown significantly the beginning of the air the resources used to perform in a gym and now there's perform in our auditory and the difference is just actually getting a real Concert Experience versus a gymnatorium as they say so you know I'm sleeping Acoustics in here are way better for all of our music ensembles performing in the auditorium gives kids a real performance venue versus the gym and being able to perform in a real performance venue up survival of their performances Department of higher Quality Logistics
