Cheney HS and Westwood MS students excel at FBLA State competition

Cheney High School students and Westwood Middle School students recently competed at state Future Business Leaders of America competitions.

The Cheney High FBLA Club had a very strong 2022 State Business Leadership Conference. The Cheney Team had 22 of its 23 attending members placed in the top 10. As a team, members placed 36 times in the competition including two state championships and three second place finishes.
 
Highlights for Cheney included: Senior Cameron Teresi bringing home a state championship in Help Desk while placing top 5 in all four of his events, Ben Schreiber being awarded a state championship in Website Design, and Jason Hatfield placing top 5 in all four of his events including two second place finishes.

Other highlights included Emme Murray placing 2nd in Database Design and Mika Corneil and Nia Guest placing top 10 in all four of their events. There was also strong performances from Luke Hurd, Garrett Heuett, Micah Richardson, Jonathan Ramsey, Draven Carter, and Connor Gall who all placed in three different events.

As a chapter, the team had a very strong showing with all teams but two competing to move past the preliminary round into finals.

The FBLA State Business Leadership conference was held in Spokane April 20-23 and was attended by over 1,300 students from around the state. Students who place top four are eligible to compete at the National Business Leadership Conference June 27-July 3.

Westwood Middle School’s FBLA students placed Top-7 in 27 of the 28 events they entered at the State Business Leadership Conference! The team brought home 6 state championships and 6 state runners-up awards.
 
Highlights for Westwood included: 
•    Kennedy Slater winning two state championships (Career Research and Marketing Mix Challenge) and one state runners-up award (Financial Literacy)
•    Garrett Miller and Logan Walker winning two state championships in team events (Multimedia & Website Development and Video Game Challenge)
•    Vincent Duong winning a state championship (Exploring Computer Science) and a state runners-up award (Exploring Economics)
•    Jillian Hoover winning three state runners-up awards (Business Etiquette, Marketing Mix Challenge, and Running an Effective Meeting)
•    Kennedy McGrew winning a state championship (Running an Effective Meeting)
•    Laralyn Akins winning a state runners-up award (Career Research)
•    Keane Valliane placing 3rd in two events (Exploring Economics and Elevator Speech).
