Band Instruments

Student safety is our number one priority. School buses are designed to transport student, and not cargo. Per Washington state law WAC 392-145-021-(3)

Heavy, sharp, bulky and/or articles which may be hazardous in the event of an accident or emergency stop shall not be transported in the passenger area of any school bus. Specific attention is directed to items such as skis, ski poles, vaulting poles, musical instruments, riser platforms, etc. In no case will items be secured as to impede access to any exit.

Instruments must be able to fit on the student's lap, or be placed on the floor in between the student's legs. Leg spacing on buses range from 7" to 10". An instrument may not take up any space other than the student's personal space. An instrument may not take away seating for other children. The aisle and the stairwell must be clear of instruments. AT no time may an instrument block an exit.

Instruments must be size and age appropriate. The student must be able to carry their instrument onto the bus by themselves and walk down the aisle with it.

Instruments that ARE allowed on the bus include: Violins, trombones, bass clarinets, clarinets, flutes, oboes, trumpets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, French horns, and other instruments of similar size.

Instruments that are NOT allowed on the bus include: Cellos, string bases, tubas, large drums, baritone saxophones, baritone horns, guitars, electric guitars, amplifiers, and other instruments of similar size.
