Substitute Information & Forms

Cheney Public Schools is always seeking qualified substitutes to work in our schools. Please apply online: https://cheneysd.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx. We are pleased that our current substitutes chose to substitute with our district. The role of a substitute can be challenging and demanding, but also very rewarding. We recognize that every substitute is a crucial member of the district and plays an important part for the success of every student. Effective January 1, 2025, for substitute teachers holding a fully-certified certificate, the rate will increase to $175 per day. Emergency-certified substitute teacher pay will increase to $150 per day. 

Additionally, beginning January 1, 2025, classified substitutes holding a degree will be eligible for an hourly pay enhancement as outlined below. This also applies to certificated substitutes who sub in a classified role (hourly rate for the position as listed below (paraeducator, nutrition, etc.), plus the indicated degree pay enhancement).

  • Associate Degree = $0.50 per hour
  • Bachelors Degree = $1.00 per hour
  • Masters Degree = $1.50 per hour
  • Doctorate Degree = $2.00 per hour

Note: Enhancements cannot be stacked, pay will be for the highest degree earned.

In order for your degree to be considered for the hourly pay enhancement, HR must have official transcripts on file. We are not able to accept copies of transcripts or a copy of a college diploma. Transcripts may be sent directly from the college/university to Leigh Lubbers at llubbers@cheneysd.org or you can request they be mailed to the following address:

Once official transcripts are received and verified, the enhancement will be included beginning with time worked starting the first of the month following receipt/verification of transcripts.

Teacher & Paraeducator Substitutes

Accepting applications for on-call/substitute teachers and paraeducators. Monday-Friday. Must be 18 years old and pass a background check.

Fully-certified substitute teacher salary: $175/day;

Emergency certified substitute teacher salary: $150/day;

Paraeducator substitute wage range: $17.85-$18.99/hour, depending on position.

Custodial Substitutes

Accepting applications for on-call/substitute custodians. Must be 21 years old, pass a background check, and have own transportation. Shifts vary: 5:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.; 3:00-11:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Training provided.

Wage: $20.75/hour.

Nutrition Services Substitutes

Accepting applications for on-call/substitute kitchen assistants. Food Handler's Permit required. Must be 18 years old and pass a background check. 

Wage range: $17.94-$21.01/hour, depending on position.

Bus Driver, Non-CDL Driver & Bus Supervision Aide Substitutes

Accepting applications for on-call/substitute school bus drivers and school bus supervision aides. Must be 22 years old to drive bus and 18 years old to be a bus aide and must pass a background check. Training provided.

Bus Driver wage: $22.55/hour; Non-CDL Driver wage: $18.45; Bus Aide wage: $17.34/hour.
