Classified PSEC Employees
Per Section 8.11 of the PSEC contract:

· Year-round employees are granted two (2) days of personal leave annually and are eligible to cash out up to two days in July.  These days do not roll over.

· Less than year-round employees are granted three (3) days of personal leave annually and are eligible to cash out up to three days in July.  Up to 2 remaining personal leave days may be accumulated from one school year to the next.

· Email Martina Brown at mbrown@cheneysd.org if you wish to cash out your unused personal days.

· Personal leave accumulated from the previous year must be taken as leave and may not be cashed out.

Certificated CEA Employees
Per Article V, Section 14

·       Three personal leave days separate from any other leave will be granted each year. The 3 personal leave days granted during the current school year may be:

1. Used by the employee for personal leave, or

2. If not used for personal leave, may be worked as additional hours beyond the school day or year at the employee's per diem rate by submitting the annual per diem sheet.

·       After August payroll is processed, remaining personal leave days will automatically accumulate for the next school year.

 

Certificated Administrators CAA

·       Three (3) personal leave days separate from any other leave will be granted each year. The three (3) personal leave days granted during the current school year may be:

1. Used by the employee for personal leave, or

2. If not used for personal leave, may be cashed out at the employee’s per diem rate.

3. Personal leave may be accumulated from one school year to the next.

·       After August payroll is processed, remaining personal leave days will automatically accumulate for the next school year.

Classified and Certificated Non-Represented Employees

· Year-round employees are granted two (2) days of personal leave annually and are eligible to cash out up to two days at the end of each year.  These days do not roll over.

· Email payroll if you wish to cash out your unused personal days.

All certificated and classified Cheney School District employees are reminded that they have the opportunity to convert their unused sick leave accumulated during the previous year into cash. Enacted by the State Legislature, this program is designed to be an incentive to encourage attendance. Please refer to your collective bargaining agreement for more information.

As stipulated, employees must first accumulate 60 days of unused sick leave at your hours per day. Your balance must be 60 days or more as of December 31 of each year. This includes leave used in December, which will not be processed until the January payroll. Examples:

8.0 hours per day X 60 days = 480 hours
4.0 hours per day X 60 days = 240 hours

Employees can then obtain compensation on a 1:4 basis (25%), with an employee entitled to one day's pay for every four days of unused sick leave accumulated in the calendar year. 

If you used sick leave during December, please deduct those hours from this balance to determine your ending balance as of December 31^st.

●        Eligibility: Employees with a minimum of 60 days of accrued unused sick leave between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.  Per RCW 28A.400.210:  (1) In January of the year following any year in which a minimum of sixty days of leave for illness or injury is accrued, and each January thereafter, any eligible employee may exercise an option to receive remuneration for unused leave for illness or injury accumulated in the previous year at a rate equal to one day's monetary compensation of the employee for each four full days of accrued leave for illness or injury in excess of sixty days. Leave for illness or injury for which compensation has been received shall be deducted from accrued leave for illness or injury at the rate of four days for every one day's monetary compensation. No employee may receive compensation under this section for any portion of leave for illness or injury accumulated at a rate in excess of one day per month.

●        Compensation Rate: Sick leave hours will be reimbursed at 25% of your hourly rate.

●        Maximum Hours: Employees may cash out up to 12 days per year. Employees whose sick leave balance exceeds the number of annual contracted work days by August 31^st will lose leave over the maximum.  Per RCW 28A.400.300: (1)(b)(v) Leave provided in this proviso not taken shall accumulate from year to year up to a maximum of 180 days for the purposes of RCW 28A.400.210 and 28A.400.220, and for leave purposes up to a maximum of the number of contract days agreed to in a given contract, but not greater than one year. Such accumulated time may be taken at any time during the school year or up to 12 days per year may be used for the purpose of payments for unused sick leave.
