Volunteer Process

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Cheney Public Schools. We believe in the importance of engaging parents and community members in volunteer opportunities. The information below serves as a guide for interested volunteers to clarify the process, along with policies and procedures for being a volunteer.

Please be aware that volunteer opportunities are dependent on the needs of our schools and are offered at the discretion of school staff. Once you are cleared as a volunteer, no further action is required on your part. We will contact you when a volunteer opportunity becomes available to determine your interest and availability.

To become a volunteer:

  • VOLUNTEER APPLICATION - Complete the Volunteer Clearance Application. Provide a copy of your current, official, photo identification card (driver’s license, state-issued ID card). Applications must be renewed each school year.
  • BACKGROUND CHECK - A background check will be conducted by Cheney Public Schools in order to volunteer in our district.
  • NOTIFICATION – As soon as your volunteer application is fully processed, you will be notified via email whether you have been cleared.

Note: Volunteer approvals are good for only the school year in which they are approved. As such, all previously cleared volunteers will be required to reapply for the following school year. Need help with the application? Contact the building office staff directly or reach out to Human Resources, at hr@cheneysd.org or (509) 559-4599 #3.
