Student Device Distribution

In support of continued learning for students without access to a computer or electronic device, Cheney Public Schools will be checking out Chromebooks based on need and availability.  At this time, the district can offer one device per household or family.  We ask that families who currently have computers or electronic devices for their students to use at home, not request a district owned device to make sure those without are able to receive one.

Please complete the "Required Mobile Device (Chromebook) Checkout Agreement" by downloading and filling out the form below.  This agreement will be required when picking up a district device.

Internet Service

The district realizes not every student has access to home internet services or WiFi and encourages you to contact your local cell phone, cable or internet provider to ask if they have a program to help provide Internet services in these extraordinary times.

Cheney Public Schools will be providing "Drive-Up Internet" at school locations within the district.

These locations are:

Betz Elementary, 317 N. Seventh, Cheney, WA  99004

Salnave Elementary, 1015 Salnave Rd., Cheney, WA  99004

Snowdon Elementary, 6323 S. Holly Rd., Cheney, WA  99004

Sunset Elementary, 12824 W. 12th, Airway Heights, WA  99001

Windsor Elementary, 5504 W. Hallett Rd., Spokane, WA  99224

The district Chromebook will automatically connect to the "Drive-Up Internet" when in range of the districts WiFi.

Internet Options
These Chromebooks use your home WiFi.  If you do not have home internet, the following internet and wireless providers are offering free WiFi and/or unlimited smartphone data for existing customers.

All Xfinity WiFi Public Hotspots are now open to everyone on the Xfinity WiFi network.  Find Public Hotspots in small/medium businesses and outdoors in commercial areas.

Non-Xfinity subscribers: Accept Terms and Conditions to access the network.  Repeat when requested to continue receiving free unlimited access.  Find access instructions here.

Free Home Internet Offers with Spectrum and Comcast
For many families with students, internet service providers are offering free internet.
  • Comcast and Spectrum are both offering 60 days of free internet to people without their services.  Cox is offering a free month to new Connect2Compete customers.
  • Both Comcast and Spectrum recently put out press releases announcing their offer, and the details of each are slightly different.
  • Spectrum is offering free WiFi and broadband access up to 100 MBPS to any household with K-12 and/or college students that doesn't already have Spectrum.  Installation fees will be waived for these households, and anyone wishing to enroll will need to call 1-844-488-8395.
  • Comcast is expanding a service they already offer for low-income families called Internet Essentials.  The service, which is normally $9.95 a month, will be free for new customers for 60 days and is 25 MBPS.  People hoping to sign up for the services can call 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.
  • Both internet service providers are also offering free access to their WiFi hotspots across the country.
  • Cox is offering a free month to new Connect2Compete customers.  The Connect2Compete program is a low-cost internet option for families with school-aged children in low-income assistance programs.  They are also offering their "Starter" service for new customers at a discount of $19.99 for 60 days.  While they are offering this package as a discount, they are also offering a month of free service for qualifying customers.   Both Connect2Compete and Starter are currently being offered at 50 MBPS.
