WESTWOOD SCIENCE CLASSES LEARN ABOUT MATTER

Mrs. Ferry's 6th grade science classes at Westwood Middle School are learning about Matter and Its Interactions. Students have investigated how atoms of different elements make chemical bonds to create new compounds, such as hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water. Recently, students learned how substances can mix together to change from solids into liquids and gases. In this picture, students mixed water and cornstarch to create a liquid that also behaved like a solid - OOBLECK!

CHS GYMNASTS QUALIFY FOR REGIONALS

Alexis Miller, Makayla Miller and Kyli Mayhew have advanced to the Regional Gymnastics Meet at Ballard High School on Saturday, February 11th. They advanced in all events, and are looking for state berths! Good luck to these amazing Blackhawks!

CHS STUDENTS SHOWED THEIR SPIRIT!

Though Cheney High School was not awarded the spirit honor at the Spirit Game, they did a terrific job! Their depiction of the Harry Potter theme was amazing! Just take a look at some of the spirit they displayed. The whole place was rockin' with Blackhawk spirit!

SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS SCHEDULED

In recent weeks our district has had three school closures related to weather and road conditions. Consequently, we have three school days to make up in this year’s calendar. The first snow closure make-up day has been scheduled for Friday, February 17, which will operate on the normal Friday late-start schedule. The additional two snow closure make-up days will be on Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16. The District’s school year calendar has been revised to reflect these changes and can be viewed here or on the website. BOND FACT: 2016 TOTAL TAX RATES

The 2016 total tax rate for bonds and the M&O levy is $4.83 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. Collection of the taxes to repay the proposed bond would begin in 2018. The overall bond and M&O levy tax rate is projected to be $5.42 per thousand, an increase of 59¢ per thousand over 2016 rates.
