Horse Therapy

Every Thursday morning, four students from Mrs. Lemelin's self-contained special education classroom at Cheney Middle School have the privilege of attending Free Rein Therapeutic Riding. While at Free Rein each student is individually taught and supported by volunteer staff and Equine Therapists. Free Rein has been serving the region since 2008 and offering programs rooted in the exciting field of equine-assisted therapy and learning. The students from Lemelin's class each have a designated horse which they get to know and ride weekly. Free Rein Therapeutic Riding believes the horses help the students build muscle, improve their joints, and enhance balance and coordination. They are also learning courage and calmness while strengthening their self-confidence and self-image. This in an amazing learning experience for the students and brings them much joy!
