Fairchild AFB aviator veteran turned children’s book author, Graciela Tiscareño-Sato, visited Sunset Elementary in connection with the SkyFest Airshow at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Mrs. Tiscareño-Sato spoke to the students about becoming an Air Force navigator during her assemblies, and shared with them her experience of dreaming big and following through on those dreams. The students were familiar with Mrs. Tiscareño-Sato's Captain Mama books. The bilingual Captain Mama book series took place at Fairchild AFB and was inspired by Tiscareño-Sato's decade of service on the KC-135.
Melanie Wild, a mother at the school, helped arrange the visit. She was a teenager when she first met Graciela Tiscareño-Sato as a Second Lieutenant in her first month at Fairchild AFB.
“I remember meeting Graciela and a female pilot at a math and science conference for girls when I was a student at Ferris High School,” said Ms. Wild. “They were both such positive role models for me as a teen girl. I’m so honored to be able to help Graciela inspire other young kids the way she inspired me. To have her visit my son’s school is a full-circle moment.”
