CHENEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ANNOUNCES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Cheney Public Schools is excited to announce Dr. Ben Ferney has been selected by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors to be offered a contract to be the next superintendent of Cheney Public School District, effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Ben Ferney is currently the superintendent of Valley School District south of Chewelah, Washington and has served in that role since 2018. Prior to that, he served as principal of Freeman Middle School for five years, assistant principal at Westwood and Cheney Middle Schools for two years, principal assistant at Bancroft Alternative School for three years, and taught high school science for ten years at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane. He holds an Education Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gonzaga University, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Eastern Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science from Washington State University.

Dr. Ferney on the news of his announcement said “I am excited to come serve in Cheney Public Schools! The district is moving forward in a positive direction and I look forward to being a part of this great team.” Board of Directors President Mitch Swenson offered a comment on behalf of the board, “We wish to thank all those who participated in the process and look forward to the energy and enthusiasm Dr. Ferney has for our students and schools as he moves into this important role in our community.”

 Cheney Public Schools congratulates Dr. Ben Ferney on his superintendent offer and looks forward to working with him to steer the Cheney Public School District as the region continues to grow. A contract will be presented to the School Board of Directors on April 27, 2022 for consideration.
