Press Release - Teacher of the Month

November 22, 2019
Cheney Public Schools is pleased to announce that Betz Elementary School teacher Traci Trotter has been selected as Eastern Washington University’s Teacher of the Month.
In an assembly at Betz Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 21, representatives from KHQ Local News and Spokane Teachers Credit Union presented Ms. Trotter with the honor in an exciting surprise ceremony in front of the student body. Ms. Trotter teaches first grade and was nominated by fourth-grader Avery Pringle – three years after he was in her class.
“I didn’t cry but I was crying inside,” Pringle said. “She’s kind and helps any student she can. I’ll never forget her.”
Ms. Trotter has been teaching for seven years and credited her students for inspiring her. “They’re why I do it,” she said.
The Teacher of the Month program is a collaboration between Eastern Washington University’s education department, KHQ Local News, and Spokane Teachers Credit Union to recognize outstanding local teachers for their excellence.
The District is fortunate that Ms. Trotter has chosen to share her expertise with the children of the Cheney Public Schools. Ms. Trotter is the second Cheney teacher in two months to be awarded Teacher of the Month; Salnave Elementary teacher Kyndle Palmer received the honor in October.
