Standards Based Grading

Overview

Cheney Public Schools has developed foundational systems for students to learn at high levels, in all classes through the PLC model. In support of the work that takes place in our classrooms, we are shifting grade reporting practices at the secondary level to align to progress to standard and for students to have a consistent process for learning progress K-12.

Our district's guaranteed and viable curriculum is state standards, all courses are organized with scope and sequences of priority standards, learning assessments are aligned to standards and now our grade reporting will be standards based.

As a PLC district that prioritizes continual improvement, we are collaboratively engaging in developing standards based grading procedures and scales. This work will take place over the 2025-26 school year in anticipation of implementation starting the 2026-27 school year.

This webpage will be updated as the progress of our standards based grading continues so families and community stakeholders have access to real time information and resources.
