on February 14th 2017 the voters of the Cheney school district will be asked to consider a 52 million dollar bond that would fund expansion in that bed sunset in Windsor Elementary Schools modernize and expand Cheney High School add secure entryways at these sites and sell Navy Elementary Three Springs High School Portables and provide funding for future land purchases in recent years District enrollment has grown at a steady Pace in the decade or District's overall population is projected to increase by more than a thousand students specifically the enrollment at Cheney High School is projected to top 100 students by 2028 the high school was built in 1966 then modernized and expanded in 1993 to accommodate 900 stood he currently serves approximately 1200 students with eight onsite Portables to accommodate classes for Cheney high school and three Springs High School a high school has several Traffic Safety and Security issues quarters are congested and an undersized cafeteria doesn't accommodate enough students so many students eat in the hallways at lunchtime the building does not have a Commons area in the space known as The Little Theatre was designed as a lecture hall with limited seating in a small stage that significantly limits theater Productions and is not large enough for most band and choir performances the proposed 35.1 million dollar wait to die school student growth projections through building expansion would modernize approximately 27000 square feet of space and would provide security upgrades spaces in the front of the building would be renovated and expanded to include a Woodshop Commons area office with secure front entry classrooms for other vocational programs a 14 classroom Wing would be added on the northeast side of the school on the school's Westside and Auditorium gymnasium wrestling room and weight room Fitness area would be added the current office space and Little Theater would be repurposed into additional classroom space in addition to the expansion and renovation of the high school the current parking lot and bus Loops would be expanded and reconfigured to better meet parking parent drop-off and needs the proposed expansion and renovation of the high school would accommodate estimated student growth through 2028 currently sunset when's are in betz elementary schools have 10 Portables between them at Sunset 7.8 million dollars would fund a 10 classroom Edition a gymnasium I'm parking and Bus Loop expansion and renovation at Windsor 7.2 million dollars would go toward an 8 classroom Edition multi-purpose room expand Kitchen in parking and Bus Loop expansion and renovation at Betts 3.2 million dollars at the proposed Bond would pay for seven additional classrooms improvements to bussin parent drop-off areas would also be made all of these elementary schools and sound they've would also receive secure entryways as would the heist this would bring these facilities in line with the other schools in our district if this measure is approved the district will be eligible to receive an estimated 2.2 $10 in state of Washington financing assistance for on house students to assist with the projects the 2016 total tax rate for bonds and the new Levy is $4.83 $4,000 of assessed valuation collection of the taxes to repay the proposed Bond would begin in 2018 call Bond and Eminem Levy tax rate is projected to be $5.42 per thousand and increase of $0.59 4000 over 2016 rate for more information about this proposal to schedule a tour of our facilities or to learn about other District initiatives and programs please visit Cheney SD. or call us at 509-559-4502
