DISTRICT BOND REFINANCING SAVES TAXPAYERS OVER $4 MILLION
Our District has refinanced a portion of its outstanding bonds in order to take advantage of lower interest rates. We had been monitoring bond market conditions over the past year, and recent low interest rates allowed us to actually exceed our savings target. This refinancing will save District taxpayers a total of $4,039,545 during the next fourteen years. These savings flow directly to taxpayers through reduced tax levies, and are not available for District expenses. We are so happy to share such amazing news!

"YOU RAISE ME UP" AWARDS PRESENTED TO STAFF
Dr. Phil Snowdon led the Cheney Public Schools as Superintendent for the 10 years from 1993 through 2003. In honor of his service, the Cheney School District provided students the opportunity to recognize any staff member who made a contribution to their success. Dr. Snowdon knew the impact of receiving a letter from a former student; he began his career as a fifth grade teacher and after he retired he received such a "thank-you" letter, which helped him to fully understand the impact he had made in the lives of his students. At Staff Recognition Night earlier this month, students presented their letters of gratitude to the outstanding staff members in their lives.
Snowdon Elementary student Zack Edge presented Ms. Eileen Ayersman with his letter representing all elementary schools. He said, in part, "You were a believer in me when I went through tough times ... You always bring out the best in me, and push me to do my best. You are a kind and loving teacher. You're the BEST teacher ever." Ms. Lori Hays, of Westwood Middle School, received a letter from Zeke Wohali, saying "She made me want to go to school. She really impacted my 7th and 8th grade year. Thanks to her, I'm doing a lot better in school." Rose Smith read her letter to Cheney High School teacher Ms. Julie Esquibel, saying "She cares a lot about her students and is an amazing person. I couldn't thank her enough for being a positive influence in my high school career. I hope one day I can make that kind of difference in someone's life." Congratulations to all of these extraordinary teachers!
DISTRICT READY FOR KINDERGARTEN TEAM RECEIVES AWARD
The District's Ready for Kindergarten team received the Annette Granier Team Collaboration Award at Staff Recognition Night. There could not have been anyone more deserving than these amazing people: C.J. Johnson, Candice Cwik, Deanna McCabe, Jennifer Gonzalez, Sally Canton, Judy Ableman, Sandra Reiber, Crystal Clapin, Leslie Cicero, Katie Barone, Emily Ham, Carly Jackson and Lynette Mellott. The letter nominating them said the training provided to families of children birth to age 5 offers information, ideas and resources for supporting kindergarten readiness. "This team diligently offers trainings at three locations several times per year. Because of the outstanding coordination and efforts on the part of the Ready for Kindergarten team, parent participation continues to grow. Children and families benefit from this program, as it offers activities that families can engage in together." Thanks to all of these amazing staff members for providing such a wonderful service for parents and children!
