  • GOVERNOR INSLEE PRESENTS GOLD STAR AWARD TO CHENEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The District was notified by Governor Jay Inslee that we are one of the top-performing districts in the state in terms of sign-ups for the College Bound Scholarship program. This program provides the opportunity for middle school students from low income homes to sign up for a College Bound Scholarship. The students pledge to graduate from high school with a 2.0 GPA or higher, be a good citizen, and apply to an eligible college under FAFSA. College Bound, now in its eighth year, continues to encourage students to dream big and pursue a college education. The early commitment of state dollars provides an opportunity and pathway for Washington students who might not have otherwise considered a postsecondary education.

Cissy St. Clair, Head Custodian at Betz Elementary School, was honored by the School Board at their meeting on February 11 as the district's Classified Employee of the Year. No one could be more deserving of this honor.  Everyone knows Cissy.  If you spend any time at Betz, you will see Cissy engaging in productive work while establishing and maintaining wonderful relationships with students.  She is a mentor to some children - providing them with a positive relationship with an adult.  Cissy takes interest in the children at Betz, and has even approached teachers to discuss students' classroom performance, and has collaborated with them to provide incentive for the students to do their best work.  She gets to know the children and she helps them to thrive in school and in life.  What an amazing woman!  Be sure to congratulate her on this well-deserved honor!  Press Release
